The Fourth ISBA Conference : 2010

“Innovation through Incubation: way forward for sustained inclusive growth”

ISBA 2010 Conference was held at the India Habitat Centre Delhi during 8-10th February, 2010. The conference was inaugurated by the Hon. Minister of Science and Technology, Govt. of India, Shri. Prithviraj Chavan. Also present were Secretaries to the Government of India from the Central Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) and the Department of Science and Technology (DST). The conference brought together 250 Incubation Managers, Incubatees, Resource Person from India and overseas. It was indeed heartening to have delegates from Nigeria, Tanzania, Mongolia, Bhutan, Ethiopia, France, Australia, Israel, UK. A parallel workshop session was in place for sensitizing the academia. 23 Vice- Chancellors and Directors of R&D institutions participated. ISBA arranged R@W EXPO for display of products and services of start ups, graduate companies, R&D institutions at the venue.
ISBA launched its Venture Fund of Rs. 55 crores ($11m approx). This is a unique milestone for ISBA and its member organizations. ISBA will play a key role in taking the incubation movement forward in this country.
Three (3) Plenary Sessions were organized during the conference.  
1.    ISBA’s Policy Paper on Business Incubation.
2.    Incubating Ventures Through Innovating Industry – Academia Linkage
3.    Innovative ways for Technology Commercialization

Five (5) Theme Sessions/Tracks ran concurrently to evolve a thought leadership.
1.    Incubating Innovative ICT Companies for Sustained Inclusive Growth
2.    Incubating Innovative Social Enterprises for Sustained and Inclusive Rural Development
3.    Incubating Innovative Ventures for Sustained and Inclusive Health
4.    Incubating Innovative Clean Technology Start –ups for Sustained Growth
5.    Incubating Innovative Start –ups for Sustained and Inclusive Urban Development

ISBA had instituted the awards at the Chennai conference in 2009. This was the 2nd year. A total of 9 start ups and graduate companies were selected for the awards.

4. Agri/Agritech/Inclusive Growth

ISBA’s Publication: “Reference Guide for Incubatees- Incubation at a Glance” .The handbook is meant to serve as a ready reckoner to all Incubator Managers and incubatee companies and has been compiled by Shri Shekhar Agharkar, Financial Advisor, of Science and Technology Park, Pune.
